Sapphire, got a question about the hydroplane races in Pasco |
Lead | |
|
I have looked everywhere online and can't find anything about the races themselves. I remember you talking about how you used to camp there growing up? If
I'm remembering right....what park would it be? Just wondering if we can camp anywhere near the place the hydro's run. I know absolutely nothing about
that area:) THANKS!

Thanks for the links!
Re-e-e-e-ally? You and family will be there? We'll be there too
Hmm..... ! I guess I remember you saying that there used to BE camping there, not that you camped there LOL |

More than likely, we'll put our boat in at the Columbia Point park (next to Anthony's restaurant) in Richland. It's not a
for sure thing... but I'm hoping.
When will you be getting into town? |

We're stlll trying to figure out what to do. We'll either camp somewhere (since camping at the races is a bit pricey
or just go for the
day Kat never called me |

Got another question about the river (keep wanting to call it a lake cause i'm used to having this race on Lake Washington LOL)
Is there any shaded areas around while the races are going on? We're thinkin' it might be hotter than blazes and will have E___ with us too
We're getting a motel at "A". A Richland address, but it appears that Columbia Park is close by? I thought the races were in Kennewick. As I move the map around (we'd be coming in on 395) there is a bridge that we go over the river...how close is the race from there? Sorry for all the stupid questions, just never been there before... I'm so confused *screams* LOLOL http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Richland+Washington&state=WA&address=1751+FOWLER+ST

Yes, there are plenty of trees surrounding the
river and throughout the park. Finding shade shouldn't be too hard. But remember, if you're going to be in the Columbia Park, you're going to have
to compete with the hundreds of other people who want shade. lol.
There'll be plenty of concession stands around, selling water. Also, there's a first-aid tent for those who need it. Don't forget the sunscreen! The races are held on the Columbia river, but on one side of the river is Kennewick and the other side is Pasco. Not to confuse you even more, but the Columbia River runs through all three cities (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick).
Yes, you'll be going over the "Blue Bridge" . That's not the official name, but it's what every Tri-citian calls it. It goes right over the river, and you should be able to see the boats from there. Can you tell me which city you're coming from on this board, or would you like to send me a yuku message
Okay, I just checked the map and I can see why you're confused.

Thanks for all the information. We'll be coming down 17, hit 395 looks like. Coming from Ephrata...taking 17 down
to Othello and down that way. So...you're not going to be there at all during the weekend? Is your house close to that motel? We could meet somewhere after
the races maybe.. ?

WELL......would you just like to meet on the grounds of the race after it's done? I'm wondering if it's posslble to walk to the course from our
motel, would't THAT be cool? E___ doesn't do so well for long in restaurants, but that MIGHT work. Or at the park after everyone's gone unless they
close it all down. I'll have to ask and see what the other 1/2 wants to do.

As far as I know, it's too far to walk where the races are. You'll be near one end of the park and the races are held waaaay on the other end.. The
park goes on for miles.
I just called and talked to someone at the Water Follies. The lady said they take over the entire park (and it's a HUGE park) during the entire time from Thursday until Sunday. So use of the park, even after hours,
isn't happening. It's too bad, because I was going to suggest the Playground of Dreams. It's a huge play area built by the community.
How old is E? We'll have our boys with us. Edit to add: I decided to drive down to where you'll be staying and there is the Wye Park less than a mile from the motel, so you could walk down.
From Fowler street, turn right on to Columbia Center Blvd. At the stop sign, turn left on to Columbia Park trail. It's almost immediately on your right. It's a tiny little park with an equally tiny toy for the boys to play on, surrounded by a chain-link fence. But I thought that it would be a great place to meet. No chance of getting lost or not being able to find each other.
The races end sometime after 5:30pm. We could meet after that. You can call when you guys are ready.
