Yes, there are plenty of trees surrounding the river and throughout the park. Finding shade shouldn't be too hard. But remember, if you're going to be in the Columbia Park, you're going to have to compete with the hundreds of other people who want shade. lol.
There'll be plenty of concession stands around, selling water. Also, there's a first-aid tent for those who need it. Don't forget the sunscreen!

The races are held on the Columbia river, but on one side of the river is Kennewick and the other side is Pasco. Not to confuse you even more, but the Columbia River runs through all three cities (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick).

Yes, you'll be going over the "Blue Bridge" . That's not the official name, but it's what every Tri-citian calls it. It goes right over the river, and you should be able to see the boats from there.

Okay, I just checked the map and I can see why you're confused. One minute you're in in Richland, and the next you can be in Kennwick, just by driving a couple miles down the road and not even know it. As you travel down Columbia Center Blvd, heading approx north, towards the river, you go from being in Kennwick to being in Richland. Yes, it's confusing to out-of-towners. But I know where you'll be.
When you get onto Columbia Center Blvd from Fowler Street, take a right onto Columbia Center Blvd. and then a right on Columbia Park Trail road- that's all Columbia Park.. If you were to follow it all the way, you'd eventually get to where the races are. That entrance will be shut down, however, due to the races. but it follows the river to where you want to get to.

The weather is supposed to be in the mid-90's for the weekend... not too bad. Also, seems we won't be going out on the river that weekend because we know that every other boater will. So we'll be going today, probably.

I live about 10 or 15 minutes from where you're staying. I live off I-182.

We could meet at a restaurant- there are plenty to choose from near where you'll be staying so you don't get lost. There's Olive Garden, Tony Romas, Red Robin (where we met all those years ago, but in Seattle), etc...

As far as I know, it's too far to walk where the races are. You'll be near one end of the park and the races are held waaaay on the other end.. The park goes on for miles.

I just called and talked to someone at the Water Follies. The lady said they take over the entire park (and it's a HUGE park) during the entire time from Thursday until Sunday. So use of the park, even after hours, isn't happening. It's too bad, because I was going to suggest the Playground of Dreams. It's a huge play area built by the community.

How old is E? We'll have our boys with us.

I decided to drive down to where you'll be staying and there is the Wye Park less than a mile from the motel, so you could walk down.
From Fowler street, turn right on to Columbia Center Blvd. At the stop sign, turn left on to Columbia Park trail. It's almost immediately on your right. It's a tiny little park with an equally tiny toy for the boys to play on, surrounded by a chain-link fence. But I thought that it would be a great place to meet. No chance of getting lost or not being able to find each other.

The races end sometime after 5:30pm. We could meet after that. You can call when you guys are ready.

Nope, no races. I haven't been in nearly 13 years. Too crowded for my taste.

I thought we were meeting Saturday because in one of your posts, you mention that Saturday is better since you're leaving on Sunday.

Now I'm confused.
